A few days back, Korean automakers launched its premium entry-level hatchback Grand i10 in petrol and diesel variants. Nalin Kapoor, owner of Hyundai motors India says that the new model Grand i10 complements our previous models, i10 and 120. The European version of Grand i10 is 100mm shorter than Indian version.

He adds that this version will slot somewhere in between i10 and i20. We have compared the two cars, i10 and grand i10 to figure out how they fare up against each other.

In all aspects Grand i10 is larger than i10, with the length of 3765m, width 1660mm and height 1520mm.It’s larger than i10 in every aspect including the wheelbase, making the car significantly bigger. This makes the pricing of the new car a little higher than i10 and going by what has been told till now, the price falls somewhere in between i10 and i20.

In terms of all the features being offered, Grand i10 rates a little high over its siblings. Along with all the features from previous versions, it has some additional features which include rear AC vents, wider rear window, cooled glove box, power outlet for rear seats, smart push button start and 1GB internal storage for the music system. It is also heard that in certain variants, some of the features are offered as optional extras on the current i10.

The new member of the Hyundai trio is powered by a new three cylinder 1.1-litre oil burner that produces 71PS of power and 159Nm of torque. The i10, on the other hand, is without a diesel mill. This possibly means that Hyundai could drop the prices of LPG and petrol variants. The automatic gear-box is absent in Grand i10, which is available with i10 and i20. The diesel variant is powered by1.1 liter second generation U2 CRDi diesel engine and gives a mileage of 24 km/liter. The petrol variant is powered by 1.2 liter Kappa VTVT engine giving an output of 83PS at the rape of 6000rpm. It gives the mileage of 18.9 km per hour.

With the launch of new Grand i10, Hyundai would be competing with Maruti Swift and Ford Figo, giving a tough competition to the veteran automakers.
